Privacy Policy

Is It Dinkum (“we”, “us”) helps you check whether a message looks like a scam. This policy explains, in plain English, what we do with the information you give us. We've built the app to collect as little as possible.

The short version

We never store your images. When you check a picture, it's analysed and then discarded — we keep only a one-way fingerprint (a hash), never the picture itself.
We only keep scams. If a check turns out to be a scam, we keep the “scammy bits” (such as links, phone numbers, email addresses or sender names) and a short summary, so we can recognise and warn others about the same scam. If a check is unclear or genuine, we keep nothing.
No accounts, no tracking. We don't ask you to sign in, we don't collect your name, contacts or location, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.

What we collect, and why

When you check a message, the text or image you submit is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and to our AI provider so it can be analysed. This is the core function of the app and can't be switched off while checking.

What we keep

Scam checks: we store the extracted indicators (for example URLs, domains, phone numbers, emails, sender IDs and impersonated brands), a plain-English summary of the result, and basic technical details (the type of input, how long it took, and a hash of any image). This builds a knowledge base to spot repeat scams and, in future, warn the public.

Everything else: for checks rated genuine or unclear, we keep nothing once we've returned your result.

On your device: the app keeps a history of your checks on your phone so you can look back or share a result. That history lives on your device, not on our servers, and you can delete it any time.

AI processing

We use Anthropic's Claude AI to analyse messages. The content you submit is sent to Anthropic to perform the analysis, subject to their terms and privacy practices. We don't send them any information about who you are.

Sharing

We don't sell your data. Scam indicators may, in future, be published or shared to help warn the community — but only content that identifies a scam, never your personal messages or images.

Children

Is It Dinkum isn't directed at children.

Your choices and contact
